7 Reasons Why You Shouldn’t Ignore Instagram For Your Business

Instagram can be a great place for most brands to build their authority, connect with potential customers, and sell their products and services.  Here are a few recent statistics* that show just how powerful Instagram can be:

– Instagram is the second-most downloaded free app in the Apple app store.

– 1 billion people use Instagram every month.

– 500 million people use Instagram Stories every day.

– 63% of Instagram users log in at least once per day.

– Instagram users will spend an average of 28 minutes per day on the platform.

– 200 million Instagram users visit at least one business profile daily.

– 62% of people say they have become more interested in a brand or product after seeing it in Stories.

Hashtags

Instagram is one of the few platforms where hashtags work really well. Yes many find them confusing but if you take the effort to learn which ones your ideal customers hang out on and what works for your business, it’s an easy way to get in front of the right people – for free! You can build the know, like, and trust factor by showing up in your business’s ideal hashtags.

Organic Growth

Instagram is one of the few platforms you can still grow fairly well organically. It comes down to your content and your engagement. The more you engage, the more you get back and the more you are noticed and get follows. Engage strategically to attract your ideal customer and you will grow your profile consistently with the right audience. That’s hard to do now on many platforms including Facebook. 

Smaller Audiences Still Work

Most businesses don’t need as large of an audience on Instagram because it is easier to attract the right audience. 2,000 followers that are actually interested in your product/service are much more valuable than 10,000 followers that will never buy from you. Using engagement strategies and niche hashtags will help you attract the right followers – even local followers if your business is only local. This is hard to do on most other platforms organically.

Instagram Users Are Active

There are over 1 billion users monthly and 63% log in daily. The average time spent on Instagram per day is 28 minutes. That’s a lot of eyeballs that could see your content and engage with it. 

Instagram Stories

500 million Instagram users spend time watching Instagram Stories daily.  Yes, every day! One third of the most viewed Instagram Stories are from businesses and brand Stories have an 85% completion rate. This is a huge opportunity to gain your business some attention. 

Instagram’s Engagement Rate

While it may seem low, Instagram users engage on content more than any other platform. For instance, the average Facebook or Twitter user has an engagement rate of only 0.5 – 1.0%. The average Instagram account, though, has an engagement rate of 3%. Using strategic engagement and hashtags can bring your engagement rate up to 5%+ too, which is much harder to do on other platforms. 

Instagram Advertising

While you don’t need to do ads to grow on Instagram, combining the network of Instagram with the information from Facebook’s Business Manager is powerful. You can run your Instagram ads through the Business Manager to track clicks and purchases on your website and create detailed warm and cold audiences. This combination makes it one of the most effective places to advertise on the internet. 


Instagram users are more active and engage more often than on any other platform. There is also a wide range of demographics to target. These factors make it a great place for your business to be seen.
