Content Repurposing: From Macro to Micro

Content repurposing is for you if you are frustrated with how long it takes to create social media content. It also helps you if you feel like you spend too much time on social media and away from your business. Content repurposing is key to keeping your content on strategy, saving time, and getting more results.

Content repurposing involves taking existing content and adapting it into different formats to reuse across various platforms. Instead of creating entirely new content from scratch, repurposing allows you to leverage existing content in new ways to reach different audiences or achieve different goals. It also saves you a ton of time!

Content repurposing strategy

Here are some examples of how I use content repurposing for myself and my clients:

  1. Blog Posts into several Social Media Posts: Extracting key points, quotes, or visuals from blog posts and sharing them as individual social media posts.
  2. Tips or Takeaways: Break down the macro content into actionable tips or takeaways that can be shared as individual social media posts.
  3. Interactive Content: Create interactive content based on the macro content, such as polls, quizzes, or interactive infographics
  4. Podcast Episodes into Blog Posts or Short Videos/Audios: Transcribing podcast episodes and turning them into written blog posts or creating short video clips to share on social media.
  5. Long-Form Content into Email Newsletters: Summarizing long-form content, such as blogs, webinars, or podcasts and repackaging it into email newsletters for subscribers.
  6. Blog Posts into Ebooks: Compiling related blog posts into comprehensive ebooks or lead magnets that can be used for email list building on social media.
  7. Break down long form videos into Reels/TikTok and create a series.

Content repurposing not only helps you make the most of your existing content assets but also allows you to stay on strategy, reinforce key messages, and maintain a consistent presence across multiple channels without getting burnt out creating new content.  The key thing you’ll notice in the examples above is they all start out as macro content.

Macro content typically refers to larger pieces of content that provide comprehensive coverage of a topic. This can include articles, blog posts, Youtube videos, podcasts, or any other form of longer content that dives deeply into a particular topic.

Macro content

Examples of macro content might include:

  • Linked In articles
  • YouTube Videos
  • Podcast Episodes
  • Blogs
  • Recorded Webinars
  • Guides or Ebooks

Macro content can seem like a lot of work to create but when you look at how many things you can do with it, you realize it can actually make your content creation easier. Spending a bit of time creating macro content gives you days or even weeks of social media content to repurpose. Typically this repurposed content is more on strategy and creates better results for your business too. Spending the time to create macro content is a win/win for most businesses.

If you are a business owner who is burnt out creating content but is hesitant to hire it out because your voice is your brand, this is a game changer! You can create 1-2 pieces of macro content a month and let a social media manager do the content repurposing. When your expertise and authority shine through in your blog, podcast, etc., it is easy to carry that into several pieces of content that can be placed on different platforms. This means you schedule a convenient time to do the macro content and let someone else run with the daily content creation. It’s a big time saver and can be a relief for many business owners.
